Call for Applicants

 Wheelwright Prize

The deadline has been extended for the Wheelwright Prize, which has been nicknamed the "Pritzker Prize for young architects." The Wheelwright Prize is a unique $100,000 travel grant offered annually by Harvard Graduate School of Design to a single talented architect, practising anywhere in the world. umni and junior faculty.

We have been pleased at the response in the past two years: We received applications from over 45 nations in the world, including the Afghanistan, the Bahamas, Bulgaria, Burkino Faso, China, Croatia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Morocco, New Zealand, Peru, Turkey, Vietnam, and more.

This is a new prize intended specifically for early-career architects (graduated in the past 15 years). Applicants only need to have received a professional architecture degree; they need not be licensed nor do they need to have built. The sole eligibility requirement to enter this international competition is that applicants need to have received a degree from a professional architecture program between 2000 and the present.

This $100,000 prize is intended to support innovative research by a talented young architect. The notion of combining research and travel goes back to the traditional Grand Tour, but in a globalized age when international travel is more accessible and architecture practice can and should draw on diverse influences, the Wheelwright Prize aims to encourage young architects to think broadly about the cross-cultural possibilities of progressive architecture.

Applicants will be asked to submit:
• a CV
• portfolio of 10 images
• a brief research proposal (700 words)
• travel itinerary to support the research proposal
• names of 3 references

Please note the revised deadlines:
• REGISTER: By January 23 (register simply by starting application; no fee)
• DEADLINE: By February 9 ($10 fee to submit; fees for applicants with financial difficulty may be waived if applicants write to info@wheelwrightprize.org).
• WINNER: A winner will be announced in mid-April.
