MINIMAX House Workshop Competition

15-18 August, Joburg
Led by Sarah Calburn and Dustin Tusnovics of SPACE MATTERS Architecture and Urbanism, The MINI-MAX HOUSE is a Design Workshop and Competition that will introduce a range of Alternative Building Technologies to Architects and Students in a simultaneously technical and design environment. Representatives of ABT's as well as the ECOTECT package from Autodesk will be continually on hand as we design, interrogate, mix, control and evaluate each 50m2 house design. 

  • A supremely minimal and wonderfully maximal 50m2 house made of Alternative Building Materials.
  • In both its making and its experience, the Mini-Max House is required to confound all expectations:

In its minimal incarnation, it is required to, demonstrably:

  • manifest the smallest possible carbon footprint in material supply, construction technique and time, out performing SANS 10400:XA

In its maximal incarnation, it is required to, demonstrably:

  • maximise creative and lateral thinking through all its design components

COMPETITIONS: INTERNATIONAL

Public library in Korea

Daegu Architectural Culture Confederation (DACC) and the Daegu Metropolitan City Suseong-gu Office launch an international ideas competition, open to architects and students of architecture worldwide for the architectural design of a public library in the Gosan district. Of an overall surface of 3 100 m2, this cultural complex will have a strong educational vocation and will also play a social and recreational role. The competition is organised with the support from the UIA.

International Student Competition:Hoop Cup 2012

The school of architecture at Tianjin University and the press group Urban Environment Design (UED) are organising an international competition for students of architecture from around the world on the theme Architecture and Transformation, to explore relations between architecture and the city; between architecture and the natural environment. The competition is organised with the support from the UIA.

The deadline for registrations has been extended to  is 30 June 2012; Projects must be sent before 8 October 2012.
