KZNIA Heritage Course

Architectural Conservation Part 1 : Principles and Philosophies (repeat) 

Presented by Prof. W. Peters

Course content:

  • Understanding the terminology and the definitions of Conservation.
  • Principles of conservationist repair and interventions.
  • Design integrity in the re-use of old buildings.

The Heritage committee is repeating the first in a series of foundation courses on Architectural Conservation, to be followed by a 2nd module in March 2012 (dates of which are to be confirmed).


The course covers the principles and philosophies of conservation and restoration. It will be presented by Prof. Walter Peters of the Dept of Architecture, University of the Free State.

Amafa submission procedures and Historical Impact Assessments

 

Saturday 11 February 2012, 9am-4.30pm, including lunch at Amafa board room 195 Llangalibalele St Pietermaritzburg.

Course content: 

Learn about the Amafa Heritage Act, application requirements, criteria for assessment of applications and general guidelines for applications. Presented by Ros Deveroux of Amafa.
Debbie Whelan will present on Heritage Impact Assessments.
The afternoon will be a walking tour to Colonial Buildings and Magistrates Courts and will include Harwin's Arcade and possibly other sites to be confirmed.
