It’s been a quite month at the KZNIA.
There was no Exhibition / Talk gathering and no CPD
offering this month, but Emeldah attended the SAIA Secretaries Meetings and I
the SAIA Board of Representatives in Jozi on the 19th/20th
respectively, so there was certainly some admin work going on – and of course
the Regional Awards were being organized, managed and adjudicated.
The SAIA Board meeting was all about their Budget for
2010 and, of course, their proposal to increase their portion of our membership
fee by 7,5% - this after the almost 100% SACAP increase last month! We finally
approved the SAIA proposal but only after plenty of debate from us, the Cape
and Pretoria, and
on condition that costs are carefully monitored.
Their projections were based on little growth in the
individual and corporate membership income next year but we were arguing that
even that was questionable given that our economy is in recession. We felt
that, despite the construction sector showing growth of 10% in the first
quarter of this year, the position post-2010 is looking pretty bleak - see the Poll
on the website www.kznia.org.za.
One bit of big news on the SAIA front is that the UIA
Congress funding that was needed to secure the event has been guaranteed by the
DPW at the eleventh hour - so the show is definitely on! In Durban! In 2014!
